In second life, you can find people who run the gamut from doing fantastic, impossible (in RL) things to those who settle for the more mundane, rarely breaking out of a RL styled existence aside from the obvious teleports and flying sprees.  This time I continue my discussions with various notable citizens to find out what’s their idea of sensible and crazy in a virtual world where anything is possible. Do they want to inject the real into the unreal, or the other way around?

In Part 2 of this discussion with various residents I know, I get to talk to Keeme Brown, Sougent Harrop, Gomem Desoto, and TheFriedGeek Althouse.

Intro music is “Under the Radar” by the band What The…? (http://www.what-the.com/).   Outro Music is “44 Lines for 22 Lindens” by Niko Donburi (http://www.nikodonburi.com).

IyF - 37 - Toys

Crap Mariner brought some toys to Podcast Island to show us… Ok, so, maybe voting robot’s not such a great idea. I mean, he barely got 50 meters off the ground, if that! Oh, and his driving? Not so hot. Oh well. Considering I haven’t seen the martian in awhile, Crap’s probably a “shoe”-in. Little… female robot.. fashion joke…

After much resistance, Keeme and Nika both caved and joined Plurk, after abandoning Twitter. In fact, Keeme created a new group for the plurkers of SL. Search in groups for PLURKAZOIDS, or IM either Keeme or Nika for an invite. We will be moving the group to subscribe-o-matic very soon, so as not to take up people’s group spots. The idea of the group is to organize parties and meet-ups within SL, and to just have fun.

Deranged builder and notorious pervert Crap Mariner shows off the rotating stairs he built for the notorious Clocktower of Edloe Island, a music venue that incorporates cogs, fanbelts, smoke, fire, water pipes, sparks, flashing lights, and a bizarre gearwork dance floor. The idea for the slowly rotating staircase came from Pandora Wrigglesworth.  So click something that will result in your watching this video, and prepare to stare in stunned amazement!

In a land far, far away…. well. Union, Illinois certainly SEEMS far away. But it’s really just a teleport away, or rather, a really cool build inspired by it is. It’s called the Far Away and it’s by AM Radio. With lots of interactivity, plenty of wheat, and blue dragonflies, there’s nothing about it that’s not interesting or fun or cool or… you get the idea. It’s one worth seeing. See how much someone can do with a little.

Some of the works seen in the build are for sale to benefit hunger via heifer international. Oh, yeah, it has a cool choo-choo.

This past week, we visited the 2007 Jewelry Exposition on OnRez Orientation Island. Over 80 of Second Life’s finest jewelry designers exhibited their work in the week-long event with a charity auction to benefit the American Red Cross. There were also parties and a treasure hunt for 17 items by some of the exhibitors. Sadly, Daphne and I only found nine of the tiny treasures. We also found so much truly creative and detailed work that we had a very hard time choosing our favorite designers and pieces to share with you. We could be cruel and discuss the fabulous Antique Pearl Choker set from Paper Couture that included a gorgeous 3-strand pearl choker with a silver clasp and playful tassel finish and matching earrings. Yes, that would be cruel because all of the jewelry Paper Couture exhibited at the expo is no longer available now that the expo is over. Read more
